Welcome to Casa Sweetie

Mexico is considered to be the heart of the Americas...Oaxaca is considered by far the heart of Mexico...Jalatlaco is considered by most as the heart of Oaxaca...

And CASA SWEETIE is your place to live, work or visit in the very heart of Jalatlaco.

Our home

We are located in the very heart of the Jalatlaco neighborhood, literally a few steps away from the San Matías Church, historically considered the geographical and cultural center of the Barrio.

Our entrance corridor runs along our private mural painting "8 deer dilemma" one of the only three "real" mural paintings in the city that tell a story, using the ancient Mixtec language structure to transmit an idea coded by duality. This private mural painting only opens for visitors on special occasions when the house is not booked.

The first floor of the house accommodates a dining room with a table up to eight seats, a spacious equipped kitchen, a bathroom, a large living room and a studio that could turn into an extra bedroom, as well as a central patio and a backyard.

Upstairs we have an extra space for working (Wifi included), three bedrooms and two more bathrooms.

Water availability is an important concern in modern Oaxaca, so Casa Sweetie is the only house in town that combines a rain collection and filtering system with a 21,000 liter (aprox. 5,500 gallons) storage capacity to assure enough water for your stay in an eco-friendly way.

Our privileged location allows you to explore most of the prime zones of Oaxaca city by foot. Among other destinations, we are less than 10 minutes walking from El Llano city park (known as "Oaxaca´s soul") , Santo Domingo Church, ADO First Class Bus Station, El Zócalo, 20 de Noviembre market, the City Cathedral and the local Guerreros Baseball Stadium. At the stadium you can hire a "taxi foráneo" to explore surrounding towns like El Tule, Mitla, Tlacolula or Matatlán . These taxis offer cheaper fares compared to private vans or hotel taxis, and locals use them often.

The local cuisine is a must in Jalatlaco and we are literally surrounded by it. Immediately outside our entrance there is the Ko.fee cafeteria where you can get a tasty cup of coffee anytime; and the next door is the renowned Xiguelas restaurant which also offers a local sourced shop for organic food.We are also a block away from other renamed Jalatlaco restaurants and cafeterias like Santa Hierba, Bacanora, Agora or Blasón.

Mural paintings are a main element of Mexico´s, Oaxaca´s and Jalatlaco´s identity and Casa Sweetie fully embraces this tradition. Our main entrance opens directly to the famous mural of La Catrina, known as "La abuelita de Coco" (Coco´s Grandma) by the locals. The facade is decorated with the mural of "Los Perritos" (The little dogs) which depicts a relevant Prehispanic clay sculpture. And at the very corner of the street there is the "Kissing skeletons", a beautiful scene that marks the main entrance to the first and only Barrio Mágico in Mexico.
